Sometimes women approach me, who are strong and confident at work, yet still feel unsure when it comes to dressing accordingly. At work the way you dress, has a high impact on how others perceive you and especially in higher positions it can really matter.

Situations where you want to look polished, but not severe. Feminine, but not girly. Professional, but not distant.

That’s what Anna was looking for in her looks.

Anna is 36 and a new Marketing Director. She doesn't want to look like the strict boss and is not the type for the classic office looks, but also doesn’t want to look like the nice intern. She needs something that looks sophisticated, but still fashionable and casual. She's not so much into intense colors or looks, that are fully body hugging.

Her body shape is a delicate A-line: narrow shoulders, fuller hips, a defined waist. Pencil skirts make her feel exposed, like her hips are too much in the spotlight. What she does love: clean silhouettes, tactile fabrics, and looks that feel quiet but deeply intentional.

That’s the starting point I styled her from.

The Look: soft structure, subtle impact

The centre of her outfit is a grey pleated midi skirt with a small buckle detail — a timeless piece that still feels modern. For Anna’s shape, this cut is perfect: the soft structure skims over the hips, adds movement, and never clings. For many women with an A-line body, a midi skirt is the ideal balance of feminine and understated.

I paired it with a black, ribbed short-sleeve knit, fitted enough to highlight her waist but grounded in a minimal silhouette. The sleeves bring balance to her proportions without adding volume, and the rib texture keeps it from feeling basic - yet it's still timeless and elegant.

To finish the look, I chose knee-high brown leather boots which bring the outfit together and make it feminine without being too much or barely being able to walk in. They elongate her frame, give her height without extreme heels, and visually streamline the skirt.

This is the kind of outfit Anna feels at home in: quiet colours, structured pieces, no unnecessary fuss. A look you walk into a meeting with and instantly feel aligned with yourself.
