Series Sophisticated Business Looks: Knit Dress

Today’s look is the next part of my series with Anna. If you saw the last posts, you already know she wanted outfits that feel intentional and powerful, but never too loud, too tight, or too revealing. In the first look, we played with a midi skirt. In the second, we made tailored trousers feel feminine.
And today: a knit dress that’s equal parts soft, graphic, and office-appropriate.
Anna’s A-line body shape loves balance: structure near the shoulders, softness over the hips, and a defined waist. She prefers quiet colours, warm neutrals, and pieces that make a statement through shape - not shouting.

The base of this outfit is a wavy knit dress in cream and black. The print is subtle but interesting, the fit skims instead of clings, and the polo collar adds just the right touch of formality. It creates length, highlights her waist, and moves beautifully without ever feeling “too body-hugging.”
To break up the softness and add a stronger silhouette, I layered an olive wool coat with a belted waist. The colour brings depth, and the oversized lapels give structure - perfect for someone who wants presence without feeling boxed in.
The accessories stay in the warm, quiet family: a brown shoulder bag with soft pleats for texture, a gold ring for understated shine, and black knee-high boots to ground everything. The boots keep the look powerful, elongate the line of the dress, and transition seamlessly from a creative meeting to after-work drinks.
It’s a look that feels modern, feminine, and confident, but isn't the classic officewear.
